Shahrukh Khan came up and brought the big heroines of Yash Chopra on stage including Poonam Dhillon, Karishma Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Sri Devi. A dance program was organized and tribute was paid to Yash Chopra who had given romantic films one after the other for more than 40 years.

 It is great that Salman Khan had received the best actor award in the popular category. He did not come in the show. Arbaaz Khan accepted the award on his behalf. Priyanka Chopra received the best actress award in the popular category.

It has happened in the last 3 years that Salman Khan had given blockbusters after blockbusters. His Wanted did business of 70 crores. Then Dabaang did business of 140 crores. He followed it up by Ready which did business of 125 crores. Then his film Bodyguard did business of 160 crores. In 2012 his film Ek Tha Tiger did business of 199 crores. And Dabaang 2 had done business of 150 crores. Inspite of giving hits after hits Salman Khan did not have the luck of winning best actor awards.

Any bollywood film could only do great business if the hero had the capacity of pulling crowds and show his mastery in acting. With due respect to all the other stars of bollywood like Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, there is no doubt that Salman Khan is the most popular hero of the present age. So he rightly deserved the award.

Vidya Balan won the best actress award in the critics category for her performance in the film Kahaani. Ranbir Kapoor won the best actor award in the critics category for his performance in the film Barfii. Both Vidya Balan and Ranbir Kapoor had made it a habit of winning awards after awards. Last year both of them won the filmfare awards for the performances in the films Dirty Picture and Rockstar.

Rishi Kapoor won the award for the best villain for his performance in the film Agneepath. He received the award and said when Karan Malhotra selected him in the role in Agneepath, he questioned will he fit the character, because he always played romantic characters for 35 years of his career. Sonu Nigaam and Shreya Ghoshal won the best singer male and female awards respectively. They did a great job. Sonu Nigaam sang the song from film Agneepath. Abhishek Bacchan and Ritesh Deshmukh anchored the program with wit.
