Today I am writing about a unique event that took place 1939. On May 14, 1939 world’s youngest mother gave birth to a baby boy. The mothers name is Lina Medina and she was just five years seven months and seventeen days old when she gave birth. Medina was born on September 27, 1933 in the village of Ticrapo near Pauranga, in the District of Capillas, Huancavelica region, 45 miles East of Pisco in Peru.
She was studying in the school when her abdominal size started increasing. Her parents brought her to hospital for checkup and doctors initially thought she had a tumor. However upon thorough examination it was discovered that she was seven months pregnant. When the news spread it generated a lot of interest. The parents were even offered money for filming rights however the offer was turned down. A month and a half later she gave birth to a baby son by caesarian operation and made medical history. The baby boy weighted 2.7 kilograms and was in stable condition. Dr. Lozada and Busalleu performed the operation while Dr. Colretta was the anesthesiologist. The baby and the mother were doing fine and she was discharged from the hospital after spending four days.
How Medina became pregnant is still a mystery and she never revealed the name of the child’s father. There was investigation carried out and some persons were suspected including her father. However due to lack of evidence no one was charged and all suspects were released. She was able to raise her child with the help of Dr. Lozada who gave her employment in the clinic and education. She was able to put her son through to high school with the doctor’s help. Her son who was named Gerardo discovered at the age of ten that Lina was not her sister but mother and he was often taunted at the school. Unfortunately he died at the age of 40 in 1979 from a disease that attacks bone marrow.
Lina married and in 1972 had her second son who still lives in Mexico. Medina lives in Lima the capital of Peru. She still is the youngest mother of the world.
