The bond between parents and children is one of the most sacred things out there. Which is the reason why that such outrage is often given when parents do something to mistreat or even harm their own flesh of blood. There rarely goes a day where some example of parental neglect issues are brought to our attention from the news. Yet, the fact is the scariest part is not what we hear, but rather we will never hear.
In the end, many people have had children, but only a select number of them could be considered good parents. Being a parent is something that can be an adventure but it can be somewhat of a balancing act. Yet there are many people who miss the point of being a parent.
Obviously the parent who is blatantly, physically and emotionally abusive to the point where there might be fatal consequences are the absolute worst parents one can imagine. Naturally just because one does not go to that extreme does not make them good parents. There are other types of parents which are only slightly less bad.
Here are five types of parents that will unfortunately ruin the lives of some innocent person that was brought in the world.
The parents who have children just for the status of having children. They don't really want children. They don't want to deal with children. They are barely more mature than most children. Yet, they feel the need to have children as some kind of status symbol, because that is what is considered to be normal by society.
The parents who only give their children the time of day when they want to discipline them. Most of the time parents just allow the children to do whatever, until they get in trouble, because of the lack of parental guidance. So they come down and exert their authority by disciplining children they don't spend time with or get involved with their lives. Why? Because it's they are parents and it is there right. While true in the most technical sense, these types of parents have no one to blame but themselves when their children act like disobedient little trolls. You didn't bother to raise them you bare the consequences.
The parents who try and make up for their failed youth through their children. Stop, just stop, trying to force your children into doing the things that you feel they need to do, because you failed at doing it. Let them find their own interests and encourage said interests. The entire atmosphere will be miserable.
The types of parents who obvious pit their children against each other, to gain respect/affection/good grades/success or anything. It never comes out well when a parent says that they never had this problem with an older sibling, because it puts stress on the child and makes it come across as the parents playing favorites. Never tell your children why they can't be like a sibling or even another child. That is the absolute worst and they will resent you later.
Finally the type of parent who blames their children for the bad things in their life. To me, this is an absolute lack of accountability and trying to find a scapegoat. Unfortunately, you cannot go much lower than scapegoating your children and taking your anger out on them. Blame your employers, sure. Blame the politicians running your country (often into the ground), sure go for it. Blame the weather, go ahead knock yourself out. However, it should never be the fault of your children when something happens. Supposed adults who blame children for their misfortunes lack the maturity and refuse to take accountability.
There are many type of parents out there and it is sad that some of them are not good. And sadly those who suffer will be those who are the most innocent, that being the children.
