The concept of working as a virtual assistant has been around for quite some time and with the Internet making the world a much smaller place, the idea seems to be getting more and more popular. I first looked into working as a virtual assistant some time ago but found opportunities few and far between, recently though I have noticed new sites cropping up which will hopefully increase the number of opportunities that are offered to homeworkers.

As a virtual assistant you would be tasked with doing the things that an office assistant would do expect it would be from the comfort of your own home. Tasks might include handling phone calls, typing documents, scheduling meetings, anything that you would do if you worked in an office. By searching on line you should be able to find some opportunities.

There are companies which allow you to upload your details, and others allow you to apply when work is available. You could also try looking on some of the freelance sites where you might find similar short term projects listed.

Finding a company which makes it viable is the difficult thing. Some companies’ terms might not work for you. However, this is the sort of service that you could run by yourself and there are a number of books that will point you in the right direction if this is something that you are interested in pursuing.

When you apply for jobs through some of the agencies listed online, you will be applying along with other people so there is no guarantee of work, but there isn’t anywhere else either. I’ve just found a UK site called vworker which is worth a look. The site offers plenty of projects which include content writing and data entry.
