Women Should Avoid Dressing Like Sluts In Order Not To Be Victimized

“Women should avoid dressing like sluts to save themselves from being victimized sexually.”
These were the exact words of a Toronto police officer constable Michael Sanguinetti.
According to him, although he knows people will end up criticizing him for what he had just said he believes that it is when women dress like sluts that they increase their chances of being sexually victimized.
These words as could be imagined created such fury amongst women across the world – especially among feminists.

This incident happened at the campus of the York University during a sexual assault information panel where police constable Michael Sanguinetti was one of the two officers present at the event.
According to those who were present at the event, it is said that a stunned silence followed moments after Officer Sanguinetti spoke those words.
Most women see such comments from people like the officer to be highly unacceptable and offensive. They feel words like that apply a stereotype to women who are sexually assaulted or raped.

Officer Michael Sanguinetti had no option than to apologize for his statement saying, he was sorry and that his comment did not reflect the commitment of the Toronto Police Service.
He said that he was sorry for any ill feelings the poorly thought comment may have caused.
Experts have said that poorly thought comments like Sanguinetti’s make it very difficult for victims of rape to deal with what they have been through as it makes them very uncomfortable to even go to the police to report thereby letting the deranged perpetrators off the hook of the law.
In as much as officer Sanguinetti’s statements maybe unacceptable to many people, some people still sort of see the truth in what the constable said. Why put yourself at risk by dressing like inappropriately when you could dress decently and be safe?
But it is important to know that nothing a girl or woman does contributes in any way to sexually assaulting her.
