Kate Middleton is scrutinized from head to toe in each and every of her public appearance. Is she due to replace Diana as the most photographed celebrity?

It is no denying that wherever she goes, Kate Middleton attracts most of the limelight, more so than her newly-wed husband Prince William. Were it not for the low-profile life-style that the royal couple adapted, she would have been in the tabloid newspaper daily and her outfit examined down to the ethnic origin of the designer.

This is most obvious during the couple’s recent official visit to North America. The trip was designed to be a hectic tour, with the couple stopping at towns and cities during a 9-day tour of Canada and finishing with a 3-day visit to the US featuring a charity polo match in Santa Barbara, and a British Academy for Film and Television (BAFTA), of which Prince William is president, gala dinner to honor British emerging talents alongside Hollywood executives. During the BAFTA dinner, with Hollywood heavyweights like Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks and Jennifer Lopez attending, Kate and William were still the focus of the night, with media around the world reporting the event with a photo of the couple alighting a black Range Rover and William waving to a cheering crowd. And Kate’s dress for the night, a light gray chiffon with a glittery waist band, was again under close examination.

While sweet moments between the couple indicate that they are in love and so will not generate the volume of media interests of William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, due to their extra-marital affairs, Kate was still scrutinized from head to toe during every public appearance. And Kate has become an icon of British youngsters who simply flock to the fashion outlets for every piece that Kate has worn, mostly from British high street stores at affordable prices.

The only hindrance to Kate’s becoming the most photographed celebrity is her desire to remain low profile and not to spare the media attention on Queen Elizabeth II who will celebrate her diamond jubilee next year. Moreover, when William is on duty as Royal Air Force pilot in Anglesey, north of Wales, the couple live near the base, rather than in their official residence in Clarence House in London, and also where the media hubs in, they are deemed to receive less media coverage as Charles and Diana.

Nonetheless, the frequency may be low, but the intensity is high. With concentrated media attention during each of her appearances, it will be only a matter of time that Kate will replace Diana as the most photographed celebrity in history.
