After the defeat of the Congress party in all the seats in the recent Assembly elections, all sorts of debate has set in among the Congress leaders, Congress cadres, other party leaders, other party cadres, media and the general public. Some Congress leaders feel that after the arrest of Yeddiyurappa in Karnataka, the fortunes of the party has turned better. They feel that the people will throw out the BJP in the next parliamentary elections and bring back the Congress with a massive majority. They are confident that Manmohan Singh will be the Prime Minister for another five years and Chidambaram will be his Home Minister.

Sanjeev Bhatt will be the Chief Minister candidate for the Congress

Some Congress leaders are of the opinion that the party should intensify its attack on the BJP for pulling down the Babri Masjid in 1992. This will make the Muslims to vote for the Congress in massive numbers. Even Hindus will be dissuaded from voting for the BJP, they feel. But some other analysts are of the opinion that the Babri Masjid issue is quite old and that the Congress should intensify its attack on Narendra Modi for his role in the Gujarat riots against Muslims in 2002. They are also confident that after Sanjeev Bhatt has spoken the ‘truth’ against Narendra Modi, the people of Gujarat will throw away the BJP and bring back the Congress with a massive majority. They feel that the BJP will lose deposit in all the seats it contests in Gujarat in both the Assembly and parliamentary elections. These leaders feel that Sanjeev Bhatt should be admitted in Congress and asked to make political speech against Narendra Modi. One thing is clear. The next elections in Gujarat will be deciding whether Narendra Modi or Sanjeev Bhatt will become the Chief Minister. Congress is prepared to offer Chief Minister Post to Sanjeev Bhatt if he continues his tirade against Narendra Modi.

Rahul is dependent on Alagiri

What does Rahul Gandhi think about these election results? Rahul is not worried about these results. In fact, he is more worried about the continued incarceration of Kanimoahi, the daughter of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi. Kanimoshi is Alagiri’s brother. Alagiri is Rahul’s political mentor. It was Rahul Gandhi who brought Alagiri to the Delhi Cabinet. Rahul never takes any decision without consulting Alagiri. Rahul is confident that his political mentor Alagiri will come out with a right solution to the ailing party and win the next election.

Alagiri feels that right at the moment, the DMK is facing lot of harassment from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Many DMK leaders and former ministers have been arrested by the Tamil Nadu police for their role in grabbing land. Alagiri feels that these things can be put to an end only when the Central government dismisses the Jayalalithaa government and reinstates Karunanidhi as the Chief Minister. Once Karunanidhi is back as the Chief Minister after removing Jayalalithaa, Alagiri is confident that the text books that carried Karunanidhi’s photos and poems could be reintroduced in all the classes in the Tamil Nadu schools. Rahul is also agreeable to this proposition.

Rahul has also sought suggestions and advice from Alagiri how to win the UP elections next year. Alagiri has promised to give his advice but has put a condition for it. First you dismiss Jayalalithaa, second you reinstate my father Karunanidhi as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, third you reprint all the text books containing Karunanidhi’s photos and poems, and then I will give my advice to you how to win the UP elections. Rahul now pins his hopes on all these things happening one after the other.
