Twitter and Facebook are the greatest social networking in the world. Until the time being, even the newest product of Google, the social networking Google+, can hardly compete with the two leaders in the social networking world. However, if I have to compare, Twitter is still better than Facebook.
It is right that Facebook has more users than Twitter, but most famous celebrities, politicians, sportsmen, and all newsmakers tend to use Twitter instead of Facebook that is mostly used by common people. Why? The reason perhaps is because the simplicity of Twitter itself.
In Facebook, you can write your status so longer with thousands character, it means that you can freely expose your idea by exploiting as many words as you can, so your messages, ideas, and thoughts can be clearly explained. But in Twitter, you are just allowed to write 160 characters for you ‘tweet’. Such short message, however, has a greater power to educate the reader and force their mind to think and contemplate.
If your thought is explained in long status on Facebook, then everybody will easily understand what you are trying to message. In Twitter, you are forced to simplify your words in 160 characters without losing the substance of your thought. Isn’t it a challenge for you? For the development of your critical mind, Twitter does better than Facebook.
Twitter also has lesser ads than Facebook. Everybody surely dislikes ads, and Twitter removes them from their main navigation. Ads only make your internet connection slow as it has to load so many images of the ads; I know it is such a pain for those who have slow internet connection.
Still there are so many things that make Twitter better than Facebook. Twitter allow you to monetize your account by share your commercial links from adf.ly, allow other paid-per-click advertising programs like Twittad and Sponsoredtweet to appear on the tweets, while Facebook does not allow any kind of advertising outside their own ads.

Thinking of joining twitterverse. Very informative article and a good comparison. By the way, I thought twitter allows only 140 characters. Thanks, Farah.
very true the points you've mentioned.
I just started using Twitter and like it better then Facebook. It's a lot simpler and less advertising like Facebook does.
I prefer Twitter as I found FB too much an invasion of my privacy and people I don't know trying to 'friend' me.
Yeah twitter can be a competitor to say the least with Facebook... It has become more of what Facebook was in the beginning then mostly a vanity digital space. There are so many more new sites... that I for one would sleep more like ONE HOUR lol instead of 3 or 4 SOME DAYS smh trying to keep up with them.. but who doesn't love to learn looses their mind. :) Thanks for the info.
If Facebook were just status updates I might agree, but Facebook is so much greater than statices! Photos, timelines, videos, groups, events, apps.... Statuses aren't even half of it!
RE: "Twitter > FB cuz sm updts p'mote crit thnkng"
Considering it took you a couple hundred words to explain your thought perhaps you either are not adept at the twitter format, or perhaps complete arguments are more useful than you care to admit.
Personally I think people like it because they don't have to use spelling or grammar, nor do they have to back up what they say as nobody can rebut in 160 characters.
