Honestly, I had never really thought about this, but prostitution being a legal job in Germany must be pretty "exotic" for some countries and cultures. And no, this article does not contain adult material!
Yes, just to make this clear: This article will not contain adult material other than the words "prostitution" and "pimp". That is already all you will get, I intend this article as a piece of information. Nothing naughty to find here, sorry :-)
So yes, prostitution has become legal in Germany a couple of years ago. But - there is always a "but", right? - it has to obey many rules, regulations and laws.
Being an official prostitute in Germany is a business like most other businesses. You need to be registered and have to pay taxes!
What is not allowed is forcing anyone into prostitution. The women need to be "self-employed". So, pimps are not legal. The only way of "legal pimping" is renting rooms to the women. It is not allowed to earn money from their actual "work".
The reason why Germany did this, is actually pretty simple and logical: It is the best way to decrease the crime rate and to get prostitution out of the shadows of our society.
The women also get benefits of being a registered and legal prostitute, as they can have a retirement plan, social security and health insurance. If you ask me, this is definitely much better than working until you either drop dead or are no longer attractive enough and become homeless and poor.
What do you think about this?

I can understand the logic, but I wonder whether it will have the desired effect. There will still be women who slide into prostitution to support a drug habit and they won't be able to pass the health screening to work legally so will likely keep on working outside the law. They'll be able to undercut the legal prostitutes in price so the more hard up customers will still go to them.
A legally recognised form of permitted exploitation. In absence of another alternative is therefore better because gives rights to a prostitute unlike in most other countries.
Why do you call it exploitation?
The vast majority of legal prostitutes (not the ones imported with means of human trafficking from poor countries) are doing it by choice.
I respect your conclusion but still doubt its validity.
