In the book of Psalms, which is made up of many prayers and sacred songs, many times there is a pleading with God to listen or to respond to a prayer or a request. From reading that a number of times, one might get the feeling that God doesn’t always answer sincere prayers and petitions, but is that really so?
From a study of the book of Psalms and the rest of the Bible, I have come to a different conclusion.
I have come to appreciate that God actually invites our prayers and that He is aware of all prayers. When a person has conduct that displeases God, unless the petitioner wants to make changes, then God will just ignore his prayers.
If we are doing our best to live by God’s ways then He makes special note of those prayers. Still, God may not immediately respond. That’s what was happening in the book of Psalms. God was not always providing an immediate answer. So the petitioner was doing the right thing by continually pleading for God to answer. God seems to take delight when we do not give up too quickly in begging for a response. That often shows our sincere desire to have a response to a specific request.
If we are sincere, God will give us the strength to continue faithful, come what may. Some prayers are given an immediate response, some are answered later and other will only be answered in the new world to come. There are other prayers where God has responded but in a way that we did not expect or conceive, and we only realize much later that God had answered the prayer all along, but in an even better way than we had hoped.
We are precious to God. So, let us not quickly assume that God doesn’t care for us. Rather, let us keep reading his word the Bible, and come to appreciate what God will do for us now and what he will only do at a later time.
In time, God guarantees by his written word that he knows us through and through, He is aware of all that we are going through and if we are patient enough then He will give us even more than we could ever imagine. Our trust and patience in him will pay off!
