It is quite an embarrassing topic. But let us face it, everyone farts. It is called farting or flatulence. It does not matter how famous or how rich you are so far as you are a human being you will surely fart. But the question for today is why is it that people fart. What causes people to fart?

What causes flatulence? These are the questions that this column seeks to tackle and give a concrete answer to. In an attempt to find the answer to why people fart, experts did a research into the issue and came out with a concrete reason. According to scientists, flatulence comes about when certain enzymes mixed with bacteria in the human digestive system react on foods such as carbohydrates and proteins. A chemical process instantly takes place when these things come together, decomposing the food and turning it into gas. That is just one reason that people fart.

There is another more common reason that causes people to fart. We all know that the root cause of farting or flatulence is air. The more air that we swallow the more air we have to fart. According to scientists, every time that we eat and swallow anything, air rushes straight into our stomach. This air that enters us from swallowing is usually released via belching but this is not all the time. About 50 to 60 percent of the times, this swallowed air is not released by belching, and hence has to find another way out of the body. It passes into the intestines and is released as a flatulence or fart.
