Who Is Happier In Life- A Poor Man Or a Rich Man (Part- II)

This is in continuation of my last column, “who is happier in life- A poor man or a rich man?’. ( part I), I have discussed that a poor man is stressed out in his life with his struggle for existence and stressed out people are less happy. Now let us see if the rich are really happy in their lives for their being rich?

The rich man, having acquired all the basic needs of life, need not really worry about his day to day requirements for his existence. Thus he is a winner in basic struggle for existence in his life. But then, he is also having his own miseries and mental tensions, which most of the times are self acquired in nature. His priority in life is not to earn bread for his survival but is after acquiring the power to establish his identity in the society in which he lives. He is in a constant rat race and in that cut throat competition; in order to prove his supremacy he is subjecting himself to various stresses, which he can conveniently avoid otherwise if wanted!

Thus the stresses by the rich man are self acquired and also these stresses can make him suffer from diseases like diabetes, Hypertension etc because of his irregular life style and unhealthy pattern followed in food habits. Other wise barring these rich and poor are equally prone for other diseases which may be infectious or non infectious in nature!

So, in conclusion, the poor have their own reason to become unhappy, so are the rich , but at the same time both of them can be happy as the happiness is the state of one’s mind irrespective of one’s economic status! The question is who can afford to maintain this state of mind for longer time? This depends on the individual’s overall personality, temperament and attitude towards the life irrespective of his financial status in the society! These were all my personal opinions.
