Popular singer Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. No details regarding how (or where) she has died have yet been released. With her many years of drug abuse and turmoil, many speculate drugs may have played some role in her death.
Whitney first came on the scene in the mid-1980s with her debut album. Her voice was beautiful and she could hit some high notes for sure!
Born in 1963 to a long line of "prominent soul singers in her family, including mother Cissy Houston and cousins Dionne Warwick and the late Dee Dee Warwick, as well as her godmother, Aretha Franklin, Houston began singing with New Jersey church's junior gospel choir at age 11," according to Wikipedia.
Not only was Houston a successful singer (especially early in her career), she also has had major roles in several movies, such as "The Bodyguard," "The Preacher's Wife," and others.
She has won several Grammy awards for her music as well as some Billboard Music Awards, two Emmy Awards, quite a number of American Music Awards, and others. She has also been named one of the "Top 100 Artists of All Times" and other prestigious awards by VH1 and other companies, with notable mentions in Rolling Stone magazine and others. She has also been nominated for many other awards and recognitions.
Houston has inspired many artists, such as Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Brandy, and countless others.
Whitney Houston released nearly ten albums and was actively producing music, including many many hits, for nearly thirty years.
Many will miss this "pop princess" with a voice from heaven. She has had a successful life of glamour which was crippled by drug problems, marriage problems to Bobby Brown, and other turmoil. Many people have already commented on Facebook how devastating of a loss this is. RIP Whitney Houston.
