We Sparkle and Shine

This is an inspirational poem about the inner beauty of a person.  When we do good things for others, or when we reach out to them to lend a helping hand, we sparkle and shine.  There's light within each one of us that serves as a guide for those who tend to get lost.

I was inspired to write this poem after reading this quote written by Elisabeth Kubler Ross:

"People are like stained glass windows.  They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there's light from within".

We Sparkle and Shine

Bits of glasses pieced together
In array of colors that sparkle
The rays of the sun make them glitter
A mosaic art that is full of wonder

Skillfully made in different designs
They vary in sizes, shapes, and styles
Exquisite in form and fragile to touch
A thing of beauty is this stained glass art

Deep within us there's something that shines
Like stained glasses we reflect some lights
We inspire the hopeless by making them smile
In their darkest moments and loneliest nights

For every word that we gently speak
And for every work that proves good deed
We change the world for those who seek
And let them see the light that they need

Let the beauty of our hearts reveal
That the light within us is genuine and real
Let the broken hearts be mended and healed
It's by helping others that we see ourselves fulfilled

In our own special way we are stained glass arts
We sparkle and shine through the beauty of our hearts
In the darkest moments of each other's sad lives
We rise up and shine to give hope and light
