The Voice: Blake Shelton Outside The Box

The Voice caught my FULL attention tonight. As an avid fan of the show my wife and I like all of the judges but we have grown to like Blake Shelton and how he works with his team members so well. Blake is a country musician and I will be honest, I don’t really listen to a lot of country music. I have heard a lot of Blake Shelton’s via my family.

I have enjoyed his presence on The Voice most of all when he steps outside the box and has sung non country versions of songs. His talent seems to really shine on the show with his team when he sings not only country but rock and soul.

Tonight he did a duet with one of his team members, Jermaine Paul . They did a cover of “Soul Man.” I grew up loving this song and have heard a great many covers of this song over my here decades of life. In my opinion I would have to rank this cover as my absolute favorite “All-Time” version of this song. Jermaine Paul sang very well but Blake Shelton blew away his art of the song and showed his talent “Outside the Box” of country.

Am I saying Blake Shelton should give up country and take on a new genre of music? No. That is for him and his managers to decide, but I would surely listen to him a lot more if he did. His country singing is great but his soulful singing of “Soul Man” was absolutely amazing! I don’t know. Other than my favorite performance, my only comment has to be “Blake Shelton stole the show with Jermaine Paul.”
