Unforgettable Literary Characters - Part 2

I'm continuing with the list of some amazing literary characters ever. Here you can take a look at ten of them.
Asterix
The comic character created by Goscinny and Uderzo. He is a warrior. The source of his power is the magical medicine prepared by a wizard named Getafix. He has a faithful friend named Obelix as well.
Esmeralda
The heroine of Victor Hugo's famous novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame published in 1831. She gets hanged after getting convicted of false allegations.
Cinderella
The heroine of one of the fairytales compiled by Grimm brothers. She raises to a princess from the plightful life with the help of a godess.
Dr. Zhivago
The protagonist of the award winning novel Dr. Zhivago written by Russian writer Boris Pasternak. The doctor has a secret extramarital affair. He is a poet also.
Tintin
The creation of Belgian writer Herge. He is a young reporter. The first Tintin comic appeared in 1929. The adventures of he and his dog Snowy are favourites of the readers.
Dr. Watson
The bosom friend of fictional detective Sherlock Holmes created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A former army veteran, most of the Holmes stories are narrated by Watson in first person.
Inspector Maigret
Inspector Jules Migret is a fictional police detective created by French writer Georges Simenon. He appeared in 75 novels and 28 short stories, first being in 1931. He is aided in investigation by his wife occassionally.
Alice
The young lovely girl created by Lewis Carroll. The novel Alice's Adventures in the Wonderland was published in 1865 and went on to be very famous. She is considered to be the personification of ridicule.
Shylock
The antagonist of the play The Merchant of Venice written by William Shakespeare; a merciless financier. He is the personification of unkindness and ruthlesness.
Jean valjean
The protagonist of the novel Les Miserables by Victor Hugo published in 1862. He struggles with the law for 19 years after stealing bread to feed his sister. He is an everlasting image of poverty.
