Two Poems: Strange Heart & Audrey's Dilemma
Strange Heart
This is a story of a woman who loves a man with a wandering eye.
Once a string of pearls,
Once a ring of diamonds,
They once ruled the world.
They were the only ones,
Gifts from a lover true,
More than silly baubles.
Paid ransom of a lover’s dues
Of the joining of two souls,
But I should have known promises fade,
Blackness consumes their light.
When does night turn to day,
To spare us from the sight.
To recognize the truth inside,
And all its understanding.
In the shadows it looms to hide,
A haunting voice forever to sing,
But you deceit comes to faze me,
Slaps me with a subtle start.
Here I stand, lost but free,
Because of your strange heart.

Audrey's Dilemma
Inspired by a story I heard a long time ago.
“Mother,” she screams out into the night.
“Father, why did you give up the fight?”
She wonders, how can I make all these wrong’s right.
How can she turn darkness into light?
On that night the storm raged.
In her perfect world, they turned the page.
Now, huddled inside this cage.
This is where they built the stage.
Who’s to pay?
And she cries
Out in the night.
Why could she not see
Thestrouble that was brewing?
She searches for a friendly face,
But there’s nothing that can replace
The guilt that eats her up inside.
Where can she hide?
She looks to a brother, kind and strong.
Ernest, the great comforter, now that they’re gone.
In the torture if a night so long,
She can’t hear the song.
And she cries
Out in the night.
Why could she not see
The trouble that was brewing?
She searches for a friendly face,
But there’s nothing that can replace
The guilt that eats her up inside.
Why does she reach for something shell never find?
She hears someone call her name.
They say, “Audrey, I’ll show you the way.”
Who’s the one that haunts her throughout the day?
What’s there left to say?
But she’s left to cry
Out in the night.
Why could she not see
The trouble that was brewing?
She searches for a friendly face,
But there’s nothing that can replace
The guilt that eats her up inside.
Why doesn’t she know the reasons why?
They had to fly.
And she whispers, “I love you.”
And she whispers, “Sweet bird.”
