Jeep or Jeepney is the standard public transportation vehicle found in all corners of the Philippine Island. Mostly, a standard 21 persons capacity (9 passenger accommodate to left long seat and another 9 passenger to accommodate to the opposite seat that faces each other) and two passenger to accommodate on the center front seat and right front seat plus a driver of that jeep on the left front side of the vehicle.
Usually, those people who take the property of other passengers without consent or permission from the owner on that vehicle are considered as theft, be it in money, cell phone or any valuable things like jewelry or etc.
So those two different common different styles of theft in a public transportation jeepney vehicle is either DURA (spit-out saliva on the jeep floor) or LAGLAG BARYA (a freefall of money coin, penny on the jeep floor) and those two are intentionally planned by the offenders.
1. Dura (spit-out saliva on the jeepney floor) usually done by cooperation of two evil passenger partners and the target passenger is on their center. The left passenger may spit-out saliva on the target passenger’s left side of cloths or left bottom part of trouser and as soon as the passenger may start to clean his cloth or trouser, not knowing that his passenger on the right side is manipulating his pocket found on his right pocket, or cellphone, or any valuable things.
The victim may feel initially embarrassed to that passenger on his left side but he couldn’t blame because the drama is he’s sick and cough, and too late that his right trouser pocket or bag is being bladed and the valuable things are successfully grabbed unnoticed.
2. Lag-Lag Barya (freefall money or penny coin) usually done by either a single snatcher or done by partners in crime. They usually fell their coin and be sure that it will clang sound when hit the jeep flooring, showing that it is accidentally fell off and unnoticed, so a passenger on his side is being a victim, through his kindness, the victim will naturally get that coin that feel off the floor, as intention to bring it back to the owner. But it is a drama, because when you start to drop your head to look for that felled coin, that offender already starting to manipulate your valuable items on your back or on your bag, and they are very quick that to your surprise later, your valuable items and that person responsible for that act is also gone and already went out, escaped.
