Trust Guarantees Safely
Text: Psalm 37:3 - Trust in the Lord and do good, then you will live safely in the land and prosper (New Living Translation).
Trust is the antidote to envy and resentment (Proverbs 3:5). Trusting God has a great reward. When we let God know we cannot help ourselves and depend solely on Him, it pleases Him. How many promises are in this text? What are the bases upon which God will fulfil these promises for us? Psalm 37:3a, Proverbs 3:5 – 7 give us insight to it.
Trusting God means believe that God is good, sincere, honest, faithful, etc, and will not deceive or harm you. It means having faith and faith cures fretting. Do you have that belief that He is sincere and He will do all He says (1 Kings 6:12, Num 23:19). People do say trust no man. Why? Man is frail, can repent and tell lies but not so with God. Just trust Him and do well for surely you will live in safety and prosper, feeding on His faithfulness.
Doing good (kindness) is essential for our corporate existence. An Ancient Chinese proverb says: “A little bit of fragrance always cling to the hand to the hand that gives roses.” This implies that when you show kindness to others, you are indirectly benefiting from that act. Use what you have which may not involve material or money to start with – that is your time and energy to do good today. Be good to someone today and receive your blessings.
Treasury of David Commentary says “To integrity and faith necessaries are guaranteed. The good shepherd will exercise his pastoral care over all believers.” Trusting in the Lord and doing good to our neighbours has rewards which are summed up in the end part of this Psalm 37:3. God will always feed His own people. He is our Good Shepherd and for that reason we shall not want (Psalm 23:1).
Food For Thought: Do you sincerely trust God?
1) Adore and worship God for He is faithful and cannot lie or repent.
2) Pray that God will grant you implicit faith and trust in Him.
3) Ask for the grace to do good always.
