Choosing nursing research topics could be challenging. This is the reason why nurses who are involved in research are taught the strategies to select nursing topics effectively. However, no matter how one is advised to apply those techniques, there are still mistakes committed in choosing nursing research topics. Here are some of them:
Choosing nursing topics with limited references
Research topics with inadequate sources of information are definitely insufficient. This is a pitfall of many who rush to do nursing research without considering if they have adequate references locally and internationally. As a result, personal explanations or other claims from other authors are not supported adequately leading to insufficient conclusion. Such nursing researches are considered unreliable and unsatisfactory. As such, result could not be used as a reference by other authors.
Choosing over researched nursing topics
This is the opposite of having limited resources. Nurses who want to finish their research in just short period of time opt to select nursing topics which is overdone. This is not a wise idea to do because you might be duplicating the work of others. Although, you find it easier to write researches with more enough resources, other people might not be interested to read your research for the reason of having the same result with earlier researches. Over researched topics are also considered implausible because it might have been rewritten from the old copies.
Choosing Research topics not relevant to nursing
Nurses who choose to research topics not in line with their specialization may have difficulty with the topic as this requires effort to do extensive reading and research. For obvious reasons, they need the expertise of other people. For example, a nurse who chooses a topic about the learning disabilities of Down syndrome students inside the classroom needs the help of teachers, psychologists, counselor, and other experts. This entails more time and effort as the researcher needs to corroborate with many people.
Choosing nursing topics impossible to prove
Not all nursing topics could be researched. There are topics which are impossible to be proven and should not be the focus of a research. Example of this includes finding the number of virus in an infected wound. Although, this could be a problem to be researched, it is not worth to be solved.
