Tony Bennett Does Duet with Sharon L. West ok with Carrie Underwood and 54th Grammy Highlights
Girl can ponder as she shares a few highlight moments of the last hour of the Grammy's 2012. Tony Bennett and Carrie Underwood sang a duet, "It Had to Be You” together then introduced the nominations for best new artist in which Bon Iver won beating out Nicki Minaj who had to be run off the stage with the sound of music during his acceptance speech. Tony Bennett who I have personally passed many times in the street walking a tiny dog, has fans globally due in part to his magnificent iconic persona and raspy sound and in part to his son he works endlessly as his manager.
One of the first strategic moves that Mr. Bennett's son maneuvered to put his father in the minds and hearts of new and younger artist was to match Mr. Bennett with younger artist who were topping charts. The move was genius for it made for the artist a market no other older musician and or singer had ventured before.
Tony Bennett's Duet I and II albums are classics and very popular. Artist from Lady Gaga to Mariah Carey have recorded with him. On his last duet CD, released in 2011, Michael Buble, Queen Latifah and even Aretha Franklin can be found singing with him classic American Songbook songs.
The introducing of the new artist of the year was the forerunner for doing a tribute to most of the artists the world has lost within the last few years due to their deaths, ending with a Whitney Houston. The tribute to the artist that flashed pictures of them with a backdrop of their music when possible took nearly 4 minutes to view. After, Jennifer Hudson sang center stage without a band behind her the song that Whitney would sing at the Grammy's in 1994, "I Will Always Love You", being the lead single from the album that won that year a Grammy also.
Jennifer's rendition was satisfying to the audience and probably considered respectful as a tribute to Ms. Houston. It was not performed as broadcast as it was to be with a vocal running with her at the same time. This probably was due to the last minute inclusion of the tribute and being able to set a project of that magnitude up or other technically reason. Aretha Franklin was also mentioned as a lifetime achiever for the 2012 Grammy's that will hold many historic memories such as Adele winning song of the year as she states she is humbled to have won a Grammy for since it is not even a op song, but a song that crossovered that she didn't expect and a glimpse of Valerie Simpson and Diana Rosss in the audience before Nicki Minaj having a Roman Holiday. Speaking of Diana Ross, she was the presenter of the album of the year, in which Adele won for her album, "21". Paul McCarthy sang the last performance for the evening, playing piano and ending up on guitar with a set of four wild strumming guitarists.
