August 19th marks World Humanitarian Day. It is a wonderful opportunity to take out time to give back to any who risk danger to help others by honoring them. Great ways to honor someone are to plant a tree, paint a picture and put out the word to the general public of the inspiration and or protective ways of an individual as suggestions. Writing a song and or making a video to record their historic events could help others help others by being inspired by the one being honored to be proactive in humanitarian effects. Beyonce Knowles is this year's ambassador for World Humanitarian Day. The song, "I was Here," taken from her album 4 is the 2012 World Humanitarian Day's theme song.
How and why did World Humanitarian Day start?
First and foremost, shouldn't it be a good thing for people who donate their time, face danger and or adversity for the sake of humanity be remembered, honored and promoted as examples of world citizenship and the power behind unselfishness? According to the World Humanitarian Day official website, "The day was designated by the General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, which killed 22 UN staff." This maybe the one of the reasonings the General Assembly have helped to determine a need to connect billions in humanitarian needs, but world citizens the world over, understand a call to action when necessary. The human heart and desire to do good in the face of adversity is nothing new, nor undetermined in the mind of those who what to live in a world of peace, happiness and beauty.
This is the mission state for today, August 19, 2012 world event:
