Tiredness is very common, especially as one gets old. All of us must have experienced it many a time. It comes and then goes after sometime. Tiredness is not uncommon among the younger generation either. But if it persists and becomes a real problem, what does it indicate? Read on to know more.

When Does Tiredness Become a Problem?

If you get up every day with fatigue and lack of energy, tiredness might have become a problem to you. Other complaints associated with tiredness are a feeling of always being sleepy, lack of energy and enthusiasm, inability to make decisions, poor concentration, depression etc.

Causes of Persistent Tiredness

There is an expert opinion that ten percent of us suffer from persistent tiredness at any one time. There are a number of patients seeking medical help to overcome the problem of persistent tiredness. It is interesting to know that the majority of those complaining of persistent tiredness are women.

We all experience tiredness occasionally. It may be due to the lifestyle in this modern world, which always is stressful. This type of tiredness goes away once we take rest sufficiently and get enough sleep. There can be physical and mental causes for tiredness.

Physical Causes for Persistent Tiredness

Too high or too low body weight can cause tiredness. If your body weight is very high, your body will have to work harder to do anything as compared to those having normal body weight. But if you are an underweight, your muscles won’t be sufficiently strong and will get tired very easily.

Diseases also can be a reason for persistent tiredness. Anemia, heart disease, thyroid problems, cancer etc. may cause persistent tiredness.

Remaining lazy and inactive can cause tiredness. Making yourself active only can remove this type of tiredness. Heavy work load also causes tiredness. Lack of sleep and excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks can also create tiredness.

Mental Causes for Persistent Tiredness

Mental stress can cause tiredness. Modern life is very stressful. It is a speedy race to get to one’s goals. Some enjoy this hectic life. But for some it generates high amounts of mental stress. It induces persistent tiredness in them. Another cause can be the mental ailment known as depression. Depression can be disastrous. It induces tiredness and fatigue. When depression grips you, you may find yourself always tired and listless.

How Can One Come Out of Persistent Tiredness?

The following are some methods that you can try to get rid of tiredness.

Make Yourself More Active

Remaining lazy and inactive will induce tiredness. This tiredness in turn makes you more inactive and this goes on like a vicious circle. You should break this pattern by making yourself busy. Get involved in physical activities. Exercising regularly may help. Try to lead an active life and try to be pleasant always.

Sleep Sufficiently

Insufficient sleep can cause tiredness. If you are not getting enough sleep you should adopt a regular sleep routine. That is, you should go to bed and get up at fixed times every day. Such a routine will be helpful in getting sufficient sleep. But, remember that sleeping too much will produce a negative effect. Eat only moderate quantity of food at night to get good sleep.

Importance of Balanced Diet

Your diet should be balanced in order to make it nourishing. Green, leafy vegetables should be included in large quantities in your food every day. They contain vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants etc. They provide sufficient fiber in your food which will improve the working of your digestive system and bowel function. Include all types of vegetables in your food.

Including fish in your regular diet is good. Small fish will be better than very large varieties. It is better to minimize the intake of red meat like beef, pork etc.

Fruits should be included in your daily diet. You should drink plenty of water.

Keep Yourself Happy and Cheerful

There should be always positive thinking. Make yourself cheerful always. Go on an outing regularly with your family and make merry. It will help remove your tiredness.

Go for Medical Help

If all your attempts at removing your tiredness fail, it is time to consider seeking medical help. Tiredness that has stayed with you for a long period may be chronic fatigue syndrome. Consult a doctor. He will find out whether some disease in you is actually causing the tiredness to persist. I am saying this from my personal experience. I have been haunted by tiredness for a long time. Only recently could I find out that the cause was a serious disease that was hidden inside. My doctor detected it and I am undergoing treatment for it now. So, don’t neglect tiredness if it persists.
