There are many who would say that the easiest way to make money online is by selling other people’s product or what is also known as affiliate marketing.
If you decide to venture into affiliate marketing, you don’t need to create your own product, you don’t need to think about the delivery of the product and you don’t need to bother yourself with customers' feedback.
All is taken care of by the product creator. What you need to do is to send people to the affiliate sales page.
But if you want to be really successful in affiliate marketing, there are three things that you need to have to survive in the online jungle of affiliate marketing.
1. Website
You cannot be really successful in affiliate marketing if you don’t have your own website. You can sell other people’s products by sending traffic straight to the affiliate product page but not everyone will make a purchase.
It has been proven that it takes at least seven encounters before a person decides to purchase a product. So how can you have seven encounters with your potential buyer if you keep sending them straight to the affiliate product sales page.
Sending your potential buyers straight to the affiliate product page is only sending traffic to the product creator’s website and that potential buyer is the product creator’s customer and not yours.
If you have a website with an opt-in form, you can capture your visitors’ information and send them more messages until they’re in the right mind set to make a purchase.
Make sure that your website is professionally designed and have informative content. Remember, people don’t go online to buy things. They go online looking for information so give them quality information so that they’ll come back and when they do, they might make a purchase on your site.
Having quality information that is updated regularly would also make your website attractive to search engines and will get you a higher ranking and therefore free traffic from search engines.
2. Auto Responder
No successful affiliate marketer should be without an auto responder because visitors who come to your website are not there to buy your products. They are there looking for information and if you let them leave without capturing their information and following up on them through an auto responder service, you’re just wasting the time you’ve spent getting people to come to your website.
Offer visitors a "bribe" so that they will give you their email address where you can do a follow-up. This way you’ll not let them forget about you.
3. Traffic
It’s no use having a beautiful and professionally designed website but no one (except probably your mother and your relatives) comes to your website.
Therefore, you need to think of ways to get traffic to your website. But not just any traffic. You must get targeted traffic that will make a purchase.
There are many ways you can get targeted traffic and some of them are through article marketing, pay per click advertising and forum marketing. Don’t waste time getting traffic from traffic exchanges. This is the worst kind of traffic which doesn’t convert well to sales.
You must also track where your visitors are coming from so that you can concentrate on the more successful marketing techniques and discard those that are not converting to sales.
These are the three things that all affiliate marketers need to survive online and make a decent income from affiliate marketing.
