It's almost Summer in the United States. It's time to go outdoor and enjoy the sun. There are many family-oriented community activities that everyone will enjoy. This article will give you some suggestions on what to do and where to go. I hope this will help you choose and decide.

Enjoy the Summer

Take advantage of the sunshine and the long summer days. Some of you will probably go out of town and travel somewhere. If you have not planned yet and you prefer to just stay within your community, there are many activities for each family member. Check your community's event calendar. There are so many things you can do outdoor this summer for free and you'll get the chance to bond with your families. These are some of the activities and events going on here in Vancouver, Washington and the surrounding areas.

Recycled Art Festival

In 2006, the Clark County Department of Environmental Services (CCDES) launched the Recycled Arts Festival as part of its effort to encourage waste reduction in the community, reuse, and recycle, for a cleaner environment. This project aims to educate everyone about waste reduction in Clark County, and has become a huge family event since this project was launched 6 years ago.

To be highlighted in this festival are artists' renditions of their works using recycled materials. Browse and see the finished products like home decors, hats, purses, wood furniture, jewelry, and many more. You will be amazed to see how tossed items become useful when recycled. Get educated and take the opportunity to learn things that you can do to make a difference by visiting the information booth. There will be music and entertainment as additional highlights to the event. Kids will enjoy watching the jugglers and stilt walkers, and listening to fabulous storytellers.

The Recycled Arts Festival is sponsored by Columbia Credit Union. The festival is taking place on June 23rd and 24th at Esther Short Park.

Free Entrance to National Parks

All over the country, 264 of 397 national parks don't charge an entrance fee on specified dates. If you missed the Get Outdoors Day on June 9th, there will still be other dates you can take advantage of. The next one will be the National Public Lands Day on September 29th, then on Veterans' Day weekend from November 10th to 12th. Plan your visit with your family and have a picnic at your favorite park. There are shaded areas where you can stay while enjoying your food. Take the trails and explore the beauty of the park, or take pictures of the beautiful gardens and ponds. Go biking or play your favorite games. If someone in the family is celebrating a special event, this is the best time and place to have a party. Not only can you save money, but you will also enjoy being with your family members. If going to the Park is something you would like to do, then plan ahead before you miss the dates.

Harvest Days

In Battle Ground, Washington, Harvest Days is a very exciting annual event. This year, it will be held from July 20th to 22nd at Battle Ground Village Center Park Pavilion. This includes carnival, live music, bingo, art show, beer garden, car show, food, and a lot more. There will be market and food vendors, where you can find fresh harvests like vegetables and fruits.

Harvest Days has been going on in the city of Battle Ground for about 10 years now. For 3 days each year, the streets of Battle Ground Village becomes a carnival place where everyone enjoys the rides, games, arts, crafts, food, and live entertainment. If you like cars, then the Show & Shine Classic Car Show is for you. This is sponsored by Riverview Community Bank and Cost Less Auto Parts. The car show will be held at the Battle Ground Community Library parking area.

Summer Concerts and Movies

These are all exciting activities that everyone in the family will enjoy. For the whole summer season, like in the past years, concerts and movies are held at the Esther Short Park in Vancouver, Washington. Check the event calendar for the lineup of shows. Seating will be limited, but since this will be in an open field, you are encouraged to bring blankets and low lawn chairs. There will be vendors operating inside the park where you can buy food and drinks. Park facilities include play equipment, benches, and paved walkways. Bathrooms are easily accessible. Pets are allowed but must be on leash at all times. Concerts and movies will run from 6:00 am until sunset. Bring the entire family and enjoy the fun.

I wish each one of you a great summer!
