Classic horror movies differ from the modern horror movies in the amount of gore that they contain. Their horror is more of what is unseen and unknown which is psychologically scarier. For those who don't like gore but appreciate the horror movie genre, here is a list of ten classic horror movies to watch on Halloween night.

Doctor Faustus(1967)

Directed by Richard Burton and Nevill Coghill, Doctor Faustus stars Richard Burton in the titular role and Elizabeth Taylor as Helen of Troy. The protagonist in this movie is a scientist who sells his soul to the devil in order to gain all the knowledge of the world and the love of a beautiful woman.

Track of the Cat (1954)

For those who loves western and horror, this is one movie you shouldn't missed. This horror movie which stars Robert Mitchum, Tab Hunter and William Hopper was directed by William A. Wellman. A seemingly mythical panther has attacked their cattle and the three brothers in the movie are adamant at tracking and killing this deadly panther.

She (1965)

Starring Ursula Andress and Peter Cushing, She was directed by Robert Day. An adventure to seek out a lost ancient city turns out to be an expedition of doom when one of the adventurers was chosen to be the mate of the supernatural Queen of the lost city.

Frankenstein (1994)

This is a classic story starring Kenneth Branagh, Robert De Niro and Helena Bonham Carter. Frankenstein was also directed by Kenenth Branagh who plays Doctor Viktor Frankenstein in this movie. Robert De Niro is excellent as the Creature and one can't help but sympathize with his predicament of being ugly and resented by Man. This 1994 version is faithful to the book written by Mary Shelley in 1818.

The Innocents (1961)

Two orphans who are seemed to be haunted by the spirits of their former governess and housekeeper are being helped by their new governess played by Deborah Kerr. This Victorian era movie was directed by Jack Clayton.

The Curse of the Werewolf(1961)

In Spain, a baby was born who grows up to become a werewolf and terrorizes the town he lives in. It stars Oliver Reed as the werewolf and directed by Terence Fisher.

The Awakening (1962)

A girl played by Stephanie Zimbalist is possessed by the malevolent spirit of a dead Egyptian queen whose mummy is brought back by the girl's father played by Charlton Heston. This movie was directed by Mike Newell and is based upon the book written in 1903 by Bram Stoker, The Jewel of Seven Stars.

Ghost Story (1981)

The Chowder Society which comprises of four successful elderly gentlemen, shares a great secret among them which led to frightening events unfolding. This movie stars Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr and Alice Krige and directed by John Irvin.

Night of the Eagle (1962)

A college professor played by Peter Wyngarde, discovers that his wife played by Janet Blair has been dabbling with white magic in order to protect him from his rivals who are using black magic against him. This movie was directed by Sidney Hayers.

The Keep (1983)

Set during WWII, the Nazis are sent to guard an old, Romanian fortress but one of them accidently releases an unknown force within the walls and one by one the Nazis are killed. This movie stars Jurgen Prochnow and Gabriel Byrne and was directed by Michael Mann.
