Tapping Away Your Problems: A New Solution to Negative Emotions

No one likes problems.

Whether it’s a small annoyance like misplacing your car keys or a bigger, long term issue like losing a job or breaking up with your significant other, problems can make an otherwise happy person miserable. We hear every day that we can’t always control the things that happen to us, but we can control the way we react to those things. But that’s not always as easy as it sounds.
Sure, it’s easy enough to control the way you act or the things you say when faced with a problem, but that doesn’t stop us from having an emotional reaction that can really take a toll on your day. Over time, these negative emotional reactions build up, reducing your overall happiness and making your life less satisfying.

But what can you do?

Bad thing happen and they can turn a good day into a terrible one. But there are a number of little habits you can adopt that make problems, stress, anxiety, and other negative things affect you less. It’s up to you to choose the habits or stress management tools you want to use, but I’d like to share one that I was recently introduced to.

It’s called the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or Tapping. It’s a fairly new technique, but it’s quickly growing in popularity due to the fact that it costs absolutely nothing to use, takes only a few minutes to learn, and can be done anywhere at any time with little more than a moment of privacy.
I was recently introduced to this technique when I read Gala Darling’s essay on EFT in which she shares her own personal experience with the technique. Intrigued, I read a few articles on the subject. EFT is a technique combining light tapping on specific points of the face and body with specifically worded positive affirmations to shift your mood from a negative one to a feeling of acceptance and self love.

When used consistently, this simple technique can give you more control to your emotional reactions to problems and negative situations, increasing your overall happiness level and making your life just a little bit better. It’s an interesting idea, especially since it is so easy to do and costs nothing to learn.
Personally, I’ve used the technique a few times in the last few days. Though it felt a little silly at first, I can see why so many people swear by it. The technique creates a simple shift in consciousness, making it easier to alter your thought patterns and emotions. People develop a number of personal routines to create a specific mood. They light candles and turn down the lights to feel more romantic or hang decorations and eat cake to feel more festive. This technique works in much the same way. It allows us to train our body and mind to stop a negative emotion. By doing this, we gain more control over our selves and more power over our lives. That’s certainly worth a minute or two of feeling a little silly.

I haven't heard of this new technique known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I will try to get more information about it. Thank you for throwing light on this subject.

Hi Pradeep. Thanks for stopping by to read my article. I only recently started reading about (and using) EFT myself. It works in much the same way any little ritual works. We develop rituals to cause ourselves to think and act in a certain way. Why not create a simple ritual to train ourselves to be accepting and loving towards our selves and our lives? Personally, I think it's a fantastic idea and I'm working to make it a habitual part of my life.

hmmm

Some of the problems in my life would require tapping with a sledgehammer to get rid of them. :-S

It's not exactly a change the world type of thing. Mostly its a change your attitude thing. Then again, if you change your mind, your life will follow. Sometimes it just takes a little while.
