People watch television for entertainment, for relieving tensions or to forget about life problems. The south Indian television industry does not think much about this because the various television channels air serials that only serve to increase, tension, adultery, strife, violence, habits like drinking and smoking. The main theme is almost always centered on mother in law abuse. The daughter in law gets abused, she cries and he story drags on and on till one day, everything gets solved and all of them are seen happy and together. Is this not hypocrisy? Should the viewers not react and tell them that no one is interested in watching such useless serials? True, the actors and others get a living out of this, but can’t they produce programs that relieve tensions instead of increasing it? You might ask- Why can’t you stop watching it instead of complaining? Well, some family members like grandparents watch the television with the volume so high that the ones on the streets can hear it. It is also a hindrance to the students who have to do their homework. The serials teach new methods of stealing and prompt youngsters to go against the rules of society. Such serials should be stopped. The serials that are aired on the popular channels like Asianet, Sun TV, Mazhavil Manorama and others are unbearable. The serial ‘kunkumapoovu’ goes as far as glorifying a street hoodlum. I only hope that the younger generation does not ape the popular actors. Cases of violence in real life have shocked the people of India many a time. Let it not happen again.
