Just 2 days back a massive bomb blast in the high security zone of Damascus at their national Security Headquarters, claimed the lives of 3 of the Syrian governments highest ranking officers. they were  the defence minister  Gen Daoud  Rajiha,  Deputy defence minister  Assef Shakwat( he was brother in law of President assad) and Assistant to Vice President and head of Crisis management team  General Hassan Turkomani.

These deaths shows that the tentacles of teh opposition to assad have deep roots in the Capital of Syria. there is no doubt that these blasts were the handiwork of opponents of the regime an dthey are suppported by the Western powers and their ally Turkey.

The USA sponsored a security council resolution imposing sanctions on Syria  today, which has been  vetored by Russia and China , much to the chagrin of the western powers. it appears the West has as yet not learnt its lesson from the fall of Saddam, Gaddafi and Mubarak. The regimes that have replaced these leaders are certainly not friends of the west. On a recent vist to Egypt the US Secretary of state  Ms Hillary Clinton was boed with chants of Monica , Monica.

The West by supporting the ongong battle against  Assad is playing with fire.  The regime that may emerge in case Assad falls is not going to be West friendly. in the meantine the situation has hotted up and Assad has mounted an offensive against his opponents.A civil war is on. The situation is fluid and  Assad may go despite the support of Russia, but  a regime that will come in will be  an antiwest Islamic regime. Is the west prepared for it ?
