With the right nutrition and supplements we can have nice healthy skin. Acne, psoriasis and other skin conditions are agony, especially with teenagers. Everyone wants to have healthy looking skin, and with the right nutrition, it’s a good possibility. Nutrition and healthy skin have been linked for years with vitamins and a good diet. We know that not enough healthy food results in low vitamin levels. There’s a way to fix it.

Nutrition and healthy skin go hand in hand. Too little vitamins can bring on skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne,dermatitis, nodules under the skin and cracks around the mouth, among others. Dexter Olden M. D.of Ohio State University is one surgeon who understands just how much nutrition and supplements influences the healing process.

Dr. Olden cites several B vitamins-B6, riboflavin and thiamine as direct contributors to skin health and vitamin K as playing a background role. But that’s only the beginning. An adequate diet must also be maintained consisting of, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals. But as valuable as all these other things are, vitamin C and zinc play the leading role in skin health.

The role that vitamin C plays has been recognized for many years. Without enough vitamin C health goes awry. Amino acids needed for rebuilding tissue are produced in the wrong order. As a result the body doesn’t have the right tools to work with. So, with all the good Vitamin C does, does more mean better? That’s a big no.

Follow the dosage on the bottle or your doctors instructions. Serious deficiencies in vitamin C are uncommon in Westernized countries. Common foods and the usual supplement habit in the U.S. probably ensures that you have enough vitamin C.

Deficiencies of zinc is another matter. In the U. S.lack of zinc is more common. It’s certain that zinc plays a huge role in skin health. Research carried out on 20 patients with skin problems found patients who had low zinc levels were slower to correct skin problems than those who had higher levels of zinc.

After two months of zinc supplements skin health was much improved. Zinc has proved to help with skin health on those who have a zinc deficiency but not those who already had plenty. So don’t go overboard with zinc.

It has long been known that fish oil plays an important part in skin health. Dr. Western Hicks at Hartford Hospital recommends ten fish oil capsules a day for his patients with psoriasis. Fish oil benefits go far beyond skin health. They extend on to the circulatory system and beyond.

Retin A and Accutane are chemical cousins of vitamin A. You could say their results demonstrates that nutrition effects acne also, these drugs differ from vitamin A in food-enough so that the link is a distant one.
