Strategic Human Resource Management: Consulting

Business Consultants are one of the most important assets to a company’s human resources department. You can think of consulting as something similar to an intelligence agency. Consulting is usually outsourced to other companies, and consultants that work independently make a ton of money for the services that they provide. Consultants are the “field experts” that business leaders call on when they need clarification on a situation.

Consulting is who managers usually get recommendations from. Consulting services are also offered to other companies, making outsourcing of this discipline come to mind. Actually, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is going to be over a 30% rise in jobs in this discipline. Since a business often answers to many different kinds of people including stock holders and government agencies, it is important to have people who are “on your side” that can see your business through all of the different types of eyes that are looking at you. Business consultants usually work from outside of the business, though it is not uncommon for an organization to employ internal consultants to address certain, very specific, issues.

People seeking a job in this discipline usually work alone and should have business administration skills and be good at marketing a product or service. Like the Global discipline, the Consulting discipline can oversee any part of human resources, and make recommendations on how to proceed. Working as a consultant gives you the opportunity to work for yourself. Consultants usually have a big house with a room that meetings can be conducted in. Remember to check with zoning laws in your area if you are thinking about consulting work.

As you can see, consulting services is something that you can offer to a company. If you have a special knowledge or skills in one certain aspect of business, then you can easily become a consultant for many companies who need to improve in an area that you can offer help. Every business needs to have some kind of help in some area. Maybe the one to help them can be you!
