Spiti - Valley that separates India from Tibet
Spiti Valley is one of the most natural places to visit on this earth. The valley is located high in Himalayan mountains at the height of 12000 feets, almost 350 kms north of Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Well the Spiti Valley lies in the Himachal Pradesh, India and forms the border between India and the Tibet. Areas closer to Spiti Valley are Manali in the south west and Ladakh range in the north. The valley is well known for its high peaks, Indo-Tibet border, buddhist culture, monasteries, and ecosphere.
If you visit Spiti Valley personally, you will find yourself to be in the one of the most peaceful places on this earth. Apart from its natural beauty, what impress most here is the houses built over the small hill which is surrounded on both sides by high mountains. All the houses are concrete built and are almost identical in shape and color thus preseneting the eye soothing panoramic view when watched from the high altitude.
Well the word "Spiti" means the middle land. Spiti Valley acts as a mid land between India and Tibet and hence forms the border between the two. Though the valley separates India from the Tibet but the culture continues to be the same on both sides. Habitats of Spiti Valley are mostly buddhists, though you will find some propotion of hindus also there. Buddhism is the most common culture practised both sides; in the Ladakh range of India and the Tibet. Spiti Valley has been the research and cultural center for buddhists for long. The valley is covered by some of the world's oldest, biggest and the highest buddhist monasteries.
Tabo Monsatery is the oldest continously functioning buddhist monastery in India and the Himalayas. Komic Monastery is one of the highest monastery in the world. Key Monastery is the oldest and the biggest monstery of Spiti Valley. Key Monastery is famous for its ancient paintings and sculptures. Then there is Sakya monastery and Kibber monastery close to Kaza. Kaza is famous for its huge prayer wheels. Tabo Monastery and Key Monastery are the favorite of Dalai Lama as well.
Another famous place near the Spiti is Lahul. Lahul and Spiti are separated from each other by Rohtang Pass at an altitude of 13,000 feet and Kunzum Pass at 15K altitude. Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass are among the highest passes of the world. The highest pass in the world is said to be Khardung La Pass at 5359 metres. Both Lahul and Spiti together forms a district head. For most of the time of the year, connection to Spiti Valley is lost because of the high snow fall in the region and improper maintenance of roads leading to the valley.
Spiti Valley is highly deficient in vegetation but the atmosphere there remains pleasant. Look at the sky above and you will be surprised to see the color of the sky which is not the blue. It is not known actually what color it is but it sky color has been crowned to ultra blue. The ideal time to visit Spiti, Lahul, and Spiti Valey is the summers but before the monsoons begins. You can take on by bus or your own vehicle to visit Spiti Valley.
