People get a laugh at our Southern expressions. It's often colorful and straight to the point. Here are some of our expressions and definitions.

I don't know him from Adams house cat. (I don't know him.)

Hush your mouth. (Be quiet)

Tight as Dick's hat band. (Stingy with money)

Three bricks shy of a load. (Dull witted)

Throw off on. (Make fun of)

Wear to the nub. (Wear down)

Well, I'll be a suck egg mule! ( Surprised)

Wearing the britches in the family.( A bossy wife)

Worth doodley squat. (Nothing of value)

You ain't just whistling Dixie. (You're saying something important.)

Your cotton's hanging low. (Your slip is showing.)

Pussel gutted. (Big belly)

Root hog or die. (Work hard to make a living.)

Running one's mouth. (Talking too much)

A rubber nosed woodpecker in a petrified forest.(Incompetent)

No count, (Worthless)

Never hit a lick in his life.(Made no effort.)

Nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockers. (Very nervous)

Muddy enough to bog the shadow of a buzzard. (Muddy enough to mire down anything.)

My mama didn't raise no fool. (Don't take me for a fool.)

Fair to middling. ( In fair health)

Makes me so mad I could spit. (Furious)

If you've got a rooster, he's going to crow. (People will do as nature intended.)

If you can't listen, you can feel. (Warning a child if he doesn't listen he'll be spanked.)

His comb's getting red. ( A sexually aroused male)

Good Ole boy. (A white southern male)

I'm going to clean your clock. (Going to beat you up.)

Give it a lick and a promise. (Do it quickly)

Have one's ashes hauled. (Satisfaction with sex)
