So far I had thought that the size of everyone’s heart was the same until I read a book on how to train your heart to become the most efficient pumping organ in our bodies. A woman’s heart is smaller than a man’s heart. Even the size of heart among men are different depending how fit they are. An athlete’s heart is bigger in size due to regular physical training.
When you exercise, your heart pumps blood to the muscles engaged in the activity. It works harder, enabling your heart to get stronger if you exercise regularly three times a week. Do not train everyday if you never exercise before because your heart will become too tired.
Heart is like other muscles. It may develop through exercise or get smaller because of inactivity. I am very proud of my husband who has a habit of doing physical exercises. He doesn’t spend more than 45minutes a day walking or jogging. What is important to him is that he can keep his heart active, which makes his heart healthier. He told me that inactivity would cripple your heart.
People who never exercise will become easily tired when walking up stairs, for instance. This is because their heart is not trained and cannot pump blood efficiently. Also be careful with smoking as it will harden the wall of arteries, which causes the pumping of the blood to be inefficient. The best way to keep your heart healthy is to stay away from smoking.
Since I got to know this, I have been more diligent in walking out early in the morning. I started with walking for at least 30 minutes. I will continue to do this till I feel comfortable with my walking speed. My husband told me not to increase the intensity quickly. If you haven’t started an exercise, why not give it a try now?
