Sitemap for your Blogger Blog

I have just spent a long time trying to find out how to implement sitemaps for my blog.Sure it was easy to find out what a Sitemap is.Almost immediately I could make out that it would keep Google posted about new stuff I publish on my blog and would therefore increase traffic.Actually implementing it for Blogger was amazingly easy once I figured out how to go about it.So in hopes to save you the trouble, here's how:

  1. Login to your Blogger account and go to Dashboard
  2. At the very bottom, under "Other Stuff" you'll find Webmaster Tools link. You click on that.
  3. This will take you to the Webmaster Tools Dashboard.Under dashboard you'll find a Textbox that says "Click here to add a site".Well, you need to paste the URL for your blog there e.g. yourblogname.blogspot.com
  4. .Then click the "Add Site" button.
  5. Now your blog get displayed under "Sites".Under "Sitemaps" you have the "Add" link which you need to click.
  6. You'll be taken to the Sitemaps page where you'll find the "Submit Sitemap" button. In the TextBox to the left of this button paste  "feeds/posts/default"  without the double quotes and click the "Submit Sitemap" button.

You're done!!! .You created your first Sitemap. Its status will be pending initially.Optionally you can submit another sitemap by pasting "atom.xml" without the double quotes in the TextBox and clicking the "Submit Sitemap" button.

If you didn't already know, google automatically created sitemaps for you once you submit your site at the Webmaster Tools dashboard. Here's a simple way to find out the name of the sitemap created for your blog.Just type the following address on your browser address bar, replacing "myblog.blogspot.com" with your own blog URL :

http://myblog.blogspot.com/robots.txt

At the very bottom of this webpage you can find your sitemap name.

Hope this is useful.
