I must ride the donkey alone- why?

Why should I move from my chosen ways
Why should I listen to some one else when I know the ways I am following are taking me to right directions and will lead me to my stipulated places.

People have been trying to suggest me ways, which will deviate me from the path I am following or have fixed for myself.
This is like the story I heard in my childhood about a son and a father who were on their way to market to sell their donkey and riding on it together. When a person saw it he blamed them for being cruel and said they, should not both ride at a time, as the donkey may get tired sooner.

Now the father was riding on the donkey and the son was walking along. Some one on the way laughed and suggested them to switch the places, as the son was young and father matured, should walk.

They did it just to meet another person on the way who laughed and suggested that son was young and father was matured therefore son was a better one to walk. Now, this made them so confused they both walked along the donkey to find another well-wisher who suggested that while they had the donkey, what the need to walk was.
Now can you suggest me what options were they left? Just the way they had started with, they both commenced their journey riding the donkey together.
