Sashwat is a character in the TV soap ‘ek doosre se karte hai pyaar hum’ which is aired on Star Plus. The story revolves around a happy family which has an aged mother, her son-Nikhilesh, and daughter- in law- Sanyukta, grandson Binoy, his wife Susheela, grandsons Anikhet, Sashwat and granddaughter Forum. The story progresses and the jealous Sashwat alienates his mother from his siblings. He thinks of various ways to tease his own brother and get the better of him. He is also portrayed a no good journalist who does more harm to people through his false reports in his newspaper. Why are there such people? Why do they think that getting their own way through devious means will bring them eternal enjoyment? They are very mistaken because any win through unfair means will not last long. Such a success will crash the moment truth is brought out. The serial writers have succeeded in showcasing the basic selfish trends in modern day youngsters who don’t take no for an answer and who go to any extent to win. Internet forums are filled with hot discussions about Sashwat’s behavior. At least the serial has helped to make people aware that such a person will not be desired by all. Unselfishness is a good trait which has to be practiced otherwise society itself will be eroded by such people who think of life only as a race to win. They do not know how to live life with proper enjoyment and goodwill.
