Poetic reflections on mortality, written in a mild Scots dialect.
= = = = = =
On Seeing a Cat Kill a Mouse
Nature, red in tooth and claw
Snuffed a life wi’ bloody maw
And in that instant, then, we saw
Our own demise
For we are fragile creatures too
In death’s cold eyes
One moment hale and hearty men
The future’s bright, we hardly ken
How quick it all can crumble when
Fate taks a swipe
And lays us low wi’ one fell blow
What e’er our stripe
We gather rosebuds while we may
For death will come for us one day
A sleekit cat in search o’ prey
Wi’ which to toy
Tae stretch the agony for years
Then kill for joy

Comments
Nature can be cruel to animals and humans. Loved the poem.
It serves to remind us of our mortality
I saw my cat chase mice but haven't got the chance to see how she kills.
Nice post :)
Does she leave you any on the doorstep as presents?
Nah, I don't know where she puts the dead body.
Just saw her grabbed one on her mouth -yayy
Where? In her belly, I expect. That's why cats hunt mice after all - to eat them!
Hmmm, this is really interesting!
Thanks!
Bruce heavy stuff but oh so true
Best Wishes
steve
I agree with the truth in this poem, Bruce. Thanks.
Thanks!
bruce this is BRILLIANT! WOW
Thank you very much for that praise!
Cats here run away at the sight of a mouse! I guess we do live in a different world.
LOL! Do you have weedy little cats, then? Or ferocious mice?
nicely written.
Beautifully written poem. I came down one evening to find our cat chasing mouse, which I was daft enough to rescue and put outside because I couldn't bear to see the cat playing with it.
luckily i never saw this truth of nature but one day a friend of mine brought his cat to my house and from the next day we were relieved for at least a week. that was great. good work Bruce
Bruce, I like it. so much truth in so few words.
True
My kids like poem very much.
Very nicely written! I saw a snake attacking a mouse once in a zoo and the mouse was trembling all over. I was so sorry for the poor creature as there was no where to run.
