Since the beginning of the new millenium, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has been seen a part of several socially related movie projects. Rang De Basanti, Tare Zameen Par and Lagaan were a few among them. The films were well recieved and his attitude earned Aamir quite a lot respect as well. It should have been inspired from these experiences, Aamir has made his television debut with the programme Satyameva Jayate telecast on every Sunday. The show an attempt to adress some of the serious social issues India is facing presently. Although many eye-opening tv shows have been there with the same purpose, Satyameva Jayate has got more attention than them despite only one episode has been telecast so far. Interestingly, it is said that the programme will last only 14 episodes. As I watched the show, I thought it is well designed one. More than just statistics, it brings the struggles and experiences of many people in a truthful manner unlike some media.
At the same time I found some remarks pointing out that the show might be a publicity gimmick for the next movie of Aamir Khan and he has got a big sum of money as remuneration. However, the programme has grabbed the attention of viewers and made a positive impact. I hope Satyameva Jayate can shed light onto some serious issues those concern people across the natiom. At least it can make a small fraction of people aware and act on the issues if not bring solutions on a major scale.
