Has clutter taken over you life? Do you have space in your home to do all the things you enjoy? No matter how small, by clearing out junk and unneeded items, you can have room for the necessities for your comfort and happiness. It isn’t always easy to part with your personal junk, but for a freer and better life, it’s worth it.

If you’re having personal problems and are feeling overwhelmed, take a look at your surroundings. Have you created a cluttered atmosphere? Is it under your bed, in your closet, in your garage? If so, it’s a hurdle you have erected yourself. Whether it’s old clothes in your closet that you haven’t worn in years or objects you never use, it’s time to get it out of the house. When you clear out the clutter you’ll be amazed at the changes in your life.

We live in a society that tells us, if one is good two is better. This way of thinking abuses your pocket book and clutters up your home. No one is immune but this constant acquiring will take over your space and your life. The mentality of “You are what you own” becomes more important than living your life, and life is for living not for acquiring unneeded objects.

Take a good look at your home and ask yourself: What do I need in this room? What do I require of this room? Maybe you require a peaceful place to relax after a hard day’s work. Maybe you want an open space to play with the kids. Maybe you want a quiet place for the kids to do homework and for the computer. Maybe you want room to fit two cars in the garage. Once you decide how you want to use your space. Look at the stuff taking up space and decide what you need to get rid of.

When you are overwhelmed with clutter, it’s hard to decide what to toss and what to keep. The trick is to look at what you actually use. You should only keep clothes that fit you now, not when you lose twenty pounds. If it takes you more than a few seconds to decide, then you don’t need it. Give each member of the household two garbage bags and have them look through their own belongings. Fill one with trash to throw away, and the other with stuff to give away, put in a yard sale, or take to the thrift store.

Empty contents of drawers and put back only items that you actually use. Do the same with cabinets in the kitchen and other areas. When undecided, use the 3 to 1 ratio. With everything from crafts and kitchen items, to keepsakes, clothes and anything useless that is only taking up space. For every three items you keep, toss one out. You can make a big dent on clutter by doing this. To feel better and have a happier, more carefree life, clear out clutter and have space to enjoy living.

I know a few people who should find this article useful. Mind you, I am just as bad, I have far more books then I am ever going to need, but I am slowly reading through them and clearing them out.

"Is it under your bed, in your closet, in your garage?" Um, no. It's worse than that. It's in boxes in the corner of the room in plain sight. It's in piles of paper growing like mushrooms when the boxes overflow. It's in a desk surface where one would need to mount an archaeological investigation to dig through the layers of junk to find the desktop... :-S
