Rajesh Khanna is no more: Death of The Superstar

Rajesh Khanna the Punjabi born in Amritsar is no more. He wasnt very old, being just 69, but it appears his kidneys failed him and doctors didnt think him a fit case for a transplant. I remember reading that ' a life time of being a nonentity is not worth 2 minutes of fame'. In the case of Rajesh Khanna it was a lifetime of fame.

Khanna acted in films for over 35 years, though his best period was the sixties and seventies of the last century. That was the time when the word' super star' was coined specifically for him. There were stars like Dilip and Raj kapoor earlier, but Rajesh was the first superstar. That was the period when he gave 16 solo hits in a row. Nobody, not even Amitabh Bachan managed this.

Rajesh when he was the superstar unleashed a feral frenzy about him. Girls were mad for him. It was tribute to his histronic ability, as he was not a macho star. Rajesh played the soft lover and gave some eternel hits like Aradhana, Haathi mere Sathe, Akhri khat, Anand, Kati patang and tens more. He was the lover who charmed his fans all over India.

Rajesh faded away when the action hero came on the scene. He continued acting but his hey days was over. Rajesh also dabbled in politics and was a member of parliament. I remember he defeated Shatryghan Sinha. All in all his love was films. He had his fair share of loves with Anju Mahindero, Dimple and Tina Munim, but these are incidental to his great showing as Hindi films first super star. Ther wont be another like him.
