premonition (n.)

1.an early warning about a future event

2.a feeling of evil to come"a steadily escalating sense of foreboding" "the lawyer had a presentiment that the judge would dismiss the case"

I never knew the word would mean much to me until it happened to me.As you all know,i am a student i my final year.I have been preparing for weeks for my final year exams whilst spending time on my project. These are hectic times and sometimes i need to clear my brain.
I left home around 8pm with my friends for a drink of Palm wine,we would hang out at this joint and share notes,it was no different from any other night and everyone was happy, rather relieved.
"A couple of hours away from reading would do us some good we thought"

9.00pm,we left the joint and headed for home,i was with four of my friends.Usually, during exams,we spend time in one place so we can compare notes while preparing for the exam.My house was the location chosen for this particular one.
We got home and were getting ready for a short nap before getting back to reading,i had the urge to use the loo,so i went down stairs to the well to fetch water, one of my friends;Martins went to a friends room to check the scores for the world cup match going on.
It's not that i had no T.V,but there was no light and i did not have an alternate source of light, but these guys had their generator up and running.
He left to check the scores while i went to fetch water. As i carried the bucket upstairs,i saw a guy talking to someone on the phone,i went past him and on to my room.

I have a bad habit of taking my mobile gadgets with me whenever i go into the toilet,so i took my phone and ipod with me.As i sat on the Water closet,i had this strange flash.

Two weeks ago,the house beside mine was robbed, the students there were held at gun point. So we were all on edge for the better part of a week.
Sitting on the toilet seat,i had a flash. . . .I did not suspect a robbery was going to happen,i knew it was going to happen.it was as if i saw it happen,i froze for a few seconds. My friends were in the room,i was watching season six of lost on my ipod in the loo when i got this premonition.

I brushed aside the thought, two minutes i was receiving a phone call, when i heard someone fall off chair, while a guy was shouting
"lie down, lie down or i'll blow your brains out."

I was cold all over, the robbery lasted for 20 minutes, during which time my position was not compromised.I thought of jumping out of the toilet ,but it would have been a stupid me since the assailants were at an awkward angle from the toilet, rushing out would only put me in the sights of their guns.So i decided to text my friend in the area,so he could alert the cops.

They were long gone though, before the cops came, they fired three shots in the air as they left.

Question : Is the power of premonition real?

Unlike a previous comment, I actually believe in premonitions, and this belief has served me well on many occasions. Each and every one of us has 'someone' watching over us, guiding us, and it's up to us to - to listen! Always trust your instincts (for that is how you hear them). Thank you for sharing your experience, and I'm so so glad that you were not harmed.

Thank you, JMLennox for the insightful comment. You are appreciated.

I wouldn't say your "dream, flashback, thought" or whatever can be safely called a premonition. I understand that you are merely suggesting the possibility but you must understand, these things happen. Just like dreams, if you have enough dreams - I mean you dream most nights usually - eventually, eventually one will come true. Whether the dream predicted a single event or a much more complex chain of events, if you have enough dreams eventually one will come true. I'm not saying it wasn't a premonition, but until you have conclusive evidence that your "flashback" predicted anything I suggest you withhold your beliefs ... for now.

As for the dream thing, I can give you a personal example. When I was younger 10 or 12, I often got scared at night so I'd sleep next to or with my parents. So one night as I fell asleep I had a dream, that I was looking down at my body from a higher vantage point. I saw my mother - who was not there the night before - wearing a red vest with the blinds on my window open. The light was shining and when I actually woke up, there I was, in the exact position to the blinds and the color of the vest just like I had "seen" in my dream. Some call this an OBE or out of body experience. But as I have said before, it could have easily been the result of many thousands upon thousands of dreams I've had and this one happened to be true. If you let your rational mind out the window then you'll only remember the hits, and not the misses.

But otherwise I enjoyed the read, and thank you for posting a personal experience. I can't imagine what it would be like to hear a man being held at gun point.

Thank you so much for taking time out to comment on my write. I see your point actually and i do believe, recurrent dreams come true at times.
