‘I begged all my life. I begged for employment, I begged for pennies, I begged for pity, I begged for my rightful money, I begged for…’
‘I would rather become a thief, a pickpocket, but not a beggar, because, a helpless and a weak man is neglected by the world, always. I have begged all these days alright. But I was never weak.’ He thought.
His birthday that was expected to give him happiness, eventually turned out to be the darkest day of his life.
Something suddenly struck him and his face told the story of his new idea. He thought that it would not be wise to commit such crimes in his own town as everyone recognized him. That is why he thought of coming to his sister’s place.
Janardan decided to approach the rich landlord whom he had been told about by his brother-in-law. He undertook the ‘mission’ at the very moment and chalked out a plan. He knew a wealthy landlord who lived in the village. He decided to target the landlord first. He then set off in the direction to commit his first crime.
He arrived in front of the landlord’s big mansion. The big gates of the mansion told the tale of the landlord’s wealth. There were guards at the gates and they stopped Janardan.
“Where are you going?” One of the guards asked in a commanding voice.
“Of course, to meet our master.” Janardan replied.
“‘Our’ master? Since when has he become your master?”
“You are right. He is still not my master, but soon he will be. I heard he is looking for someone as a domestic help.”
“You are right. But meeting the master is not an easy job. Wait here until we get the permission to call you in.”
“All right, I will wait here.”
