There are other relationships that take between different organisms in the Ecosystem. These relationships are Parasitism, Mutualism, Commensalism, Predation and Competition.
Parasitism is a kind of relationship wherein one organism is feed on the other organism; this is done without killing the late organism. The organism that is being feed is called as the parasite. The organism in which the parasite is feed is called as the host. Example for these are the worms inside the intestine of other animals.
Mutualism is a kind of relationship wherein both the organisms benefit from each other. Example of this kind of relationships is on what is happening on the sea anemone and the clam fish. They both benefit from each other considering that the sea anemone provides shelter to the clown fish, and the clown fish attracts smaller fish to get nearer to the location from which the sea anemone is located and get captured by it.
Commensalism is the relationship wherein one organism benefits but the other will not, or it is not affected at all. An example of this relationship takes place between the orchids and the tree. The orchids grow in the branch of the tree; the tree serves as the orchid’s shelter but it does not harm the tree. Unlike in the case of the parasite, the tree itself is not affected with the orchid’s presence on its branch. The tree is not harmed nor gets benefit from the orchid’s activity.
Predation is a relationship in which one organism is hunted by the other organism for food. The organism that is being hunt is called as the prey while the organism that hunts the prey is called as the predator. Example for these are the lions who usually take their foods from hunting weaker animals.
Competition is another kind of relationship between organisms in the environment. It does happen when there are more than one organism that needs the same resources; with this, competition takes place between one another in order for them to get what they need. In the case that the resources are scarce or limited, one of organism may succeed and the other may failed to survive.
There are different organisms living in an ecosystem and with these several relationship are developed namely parasitism, mutualism, commensalism, predation and competition. Different organisms are involve in these different relationship and all aims for their survival in a particular ecosystem.
