Myth, Fact, or Fiction: Filipino Roman Catholics observe Lent with Gory Rituals

During Lent Season, Filipino by tradition observe lent but by carrying a heavy wooden cross while walking barefooted, repeatedly beating their backs with an improvised whip, or let themselves nail on the wooden cross.

Devotees believed that this different types of religious penance is the only effective way to cleanse those previous sins that they made.

Ranging from 25 to 45 kilogram of wooden cross to carry for an hours of walk is not the solution to cleanse those sins commited; instead, God will getting more angry if people practice this religious type of penance, why?

Because what they did is they let their body more weaken, they destroy their body that God give to them.
Instead of beating your body or carrying heavy loads, why not eliminate drinking of wine and beer, and stop smoking cigarettes and eat a lot of foods that contains vitamins and minerals, exercise, and everything just to maintain your body in good shape and good health (taking care of your body that God gaves).

They should remember that only Jesus is the only one allowed to do this as already pre-arranged, to save us from sins that our ancestors committed;
and to those people who re-enactment the passions of Christ, blood that draws out of their backs, well, they are not God to do such thing.
Instead of eliminating their sins, it only adds, and by that, God will getting more mad at them.

If Bible is a holy book written by men, inspired by God, does Holy Bible recommends us to observe Lent by beating our backs, carry the heavy cross with gory rituals?

The most highest priest of all for the Roman Catholic Religion are Pope in Vatican, does the Pope recommends us to observe Lent by allowing those who volunteers to nail on the wooden cross?

So the ultimate way to eliminating the sins committed by man is by participating the Act of Forgiveness, to repent, or to go to church and start confessing to the priest, or by just kneeling down and start by praying heartily to God and promise not to do it anymore.
Just remember that God is the King of Mercy, and He will always forgive if a person confess seriously.
