The US president elections are nearing. One of my friends wrote to me from the USA that there was nothing much to choose between Mitt Romney and Obama: in fact he mentioned that it was a choice between Hitler and Stalin.
I think this analogy is a little far fetched, but the fact is that the opponent of Obama, Mitt Romney is not a man who inspires confidence. Basically it is on two counts. Firstly he seems to be all at sea as far as economics of US finance are concerned. He does not have any clear cut options to parade. One gets a feeling that perhaps finance and economics is his bug bear and he has no notion how to put Th e US economy back on rails.
The second count is a little more personal. Mitt is a Mormon and if he wins he will be the first Mormon to become head of the USA. The Mormons have never been fully integrated in US society and had some weird practices like multiple wives. Their earlier scriptures railed against Christian church though these were removed later on.
Thus the opposition to Obama is a big zero and though Obama has not done what he promised, he will win more by default than anything else. Come to think of it man for man Obama is the better leader with clear cut ideas. He might fail but that is another story.
The US elections are hotting up. There is also Ron Paul, but I doubt he will pass muster and the clash will be between Obama and Mitt. I have a feeling that the US electorate is getting weary of this 4 year spectacle. The results lead nowhere and after Roosevelt no great US President has emerged. There have been Presidents, but most were mediocre men who rose up on the backs of big bucks. Romney is in that category, but hopefully Obama will sail through.
