It’s summer time, school is out, the weather is beautiful and beaches, pools, and baseball fields are calling. Do get out and enjoy all of the outdoors but remember to slather on the sunscreen. Consumers Reports tell us we don’t have to spend a lot of big bucks on sunscreen. One of the lowest priced sunblocks received the highest rating. So slather up yourself and the kids and enjoy nature.

NO-Ad sunscreen is one of the best sunscreens at just .59 an ounce? The experts who test these things say it is, and the good word also comes from Consumers Reports. It’s a no name brand that was introduced in 1960 that prides itself on offering twice as much at half the price.

In fact many sunscreens do a good job but most of them are pricey, so why pay more when you can get one of the best products cheaper? One high end sunscreen (La Roche-Posay) is $20.00 an ounce and scored much lower than NO-AD in effectiveness. For those who like spray, Walgreen’s Continuous Spray Sport SPF 50, received a very high rating for effectiveness.

Dermatologists say the biggest problem is that people apply sunscreen too sparsely. Kids, especially need lots of it. They really need to be slathered before going out in the sun. And don’t forget to slather yourself. Everyone at every age needs protection from the sun.

But the good news is that you don’t have to pay big bucks to get excellent protection. It’s also a good idea to wear a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses and long sleeves. I know, I know, it’s summer time and the season for skimpy tops, short shorts and bikinis, but think about your skin years from now.

Those of us who grew up when there were no sunscreens and no worries about sun damage to our skin are seeing the results of that era now. Splotchy skin, brown spots and skin cancer is common. We’re a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.

Skin cancer detected early can be easily treated but undetected it can turn into melanoma and be life threatening. Remember when you go to the beach, pool or just out to play in the sun. Take every precaution to protect your’s and the kids skin. You wont be sorry, and you might save thousands of dollars on medical treatment.
