Morton’s Toe What Is It? Morton’s toe or Morton’s syndrome long toe is where you second toe is bigger than your big toe. It is fairly common. There is sometimes discomfort with this condition. You have also usually got to buy bigger shoes to accommodate for the longer toe.
This can be a problem with balance for some people. Normally when you walk the majority your weight would be taken on by the big toe. With this condition the weight is shifted to the second long toe. Some people with this condition will be embarrassed to wear flip flops or sandals because of their toe. But it is really nothing to be embarrassed of. You were born like that. Some may have no problems with this condition but other will have problems.
There might even be a link between muscle pain and this condition because of the abnormal way that you would walk and it may cause pain in your body. This pain in your body may not show up until about mid life after all the stress on your body over the years. This condition may also cause ankle problems because when you are walking your ankle will tend to roll inward.
Morton’s toe is hereditary. People that has this condition are more prone to calluses. Your best bet is to buy shoes about 1/2 size bigger to give space for the toe. For some a podiatrist can help by making special orthotics to help with the problem. Not everyone who has this will have a problem some will just have it and have no problems with it at all.
