Have you or anyone you know, ever met a psychiatrist before? Then you would have crossed certain experiences. Well, a psychiatrist is a qualified mental health professional who treats ailments relating to mental health not necessarily or not always madness. There are various misconceptions revolving around. I do not really know whether it is a myth or a fact or a truth that if some person undergoes some treatment with a psychiatrist for some minor disturbances or problems he has been facing like stress, depression, anxiety the world looks at the scenario differently and did not accept that it is a normal phenomenon. Why and what is the reason for this attitude?
Though our world faces vast advancements in each and every aspect and the perceptions of people being totally different today, still the issue is always an enigma. Just as there are various health issues relating to body; the same applies to mind too. Owing to various constraints like stress, mechanical work pressures, emotional disturbances and failures ,it happens at times the mind meets with some shortcomings .It is totally unfair and wrong to assume that a person can go to a psychiatrist if he is to be treated for some chronic problems .Is it true? Not at all.
There can be some trivial issues which can be dealt better by taking some medications prescribed by a psychiatrist. Then where aroused the act of looking at things differently. The second most important thing is people start pouring couple of suggestions for that. Due to some hormonal changes the level of certain chemicals in the brain show some slight variation the impact of which the person suffers from anxiety, obsessive thoughts, depression which can be treated only clinically. But when people do not understand this or not aware of it, they try to ease the situation by listing all steps which don’t really help. They only try to add fuel to the already burning fire. While one extreme is looking at the scenario differently the other extreme is a list of unrealistic suggestions.
Finally one more issue which has come to light is most of the people being unwilling to divulge what had happened. While a person can speak endlessly about his aches, pains, diabetes, blood pressure some times to the extent of even cancer, if on some lines if he ever visited a psychiatrist or a mental health professional, the matter is almost hidden, he will never utter a word. Definitely I cannot find any fault with the person because the society is such. The person is helpless.
We hear lots of facts from media about the importance of mental health, counseling, and therapies. Hence drive a positive force towards it. The article is not to specifically point any group of people and debate. While people take endless efforts, make compromises out of necessity for so many happenings in life, like wise a small twisting of perceptions and a slightly different view of the scenario can add more values to life. They would help matters a lot. If the world has really changed it is really a positive move and the article help out erase the little percentage. Agree??

As a long time anxiety sufferer, I’ve had my share of psychiatric appointments (and disappointments as well, truth be told). And you know what? I’m actually thankful for those experiences, and I’ve come to realize how people are severely misinformed regarding the role of a counselor. Too many people still have a strong prejudice towards the idea of seeing a therapist, which is generally regarded as a sign of weakness and insanity. As a matter of fact, it’s very much the other way around!
The role of a modern counselor is not “fixing” deranged people. It’s helping people who have issues (and trust me, we all do) understand the source of their troubles, and providing them with tools they can use to deal with such issues. In my opinion, people who refuse checking with such a professional are crazier than those who don’t! Granted, there are conditions that people can manage on their own; there are solid natural anxiety treatments and depression management plans available… but still, I think that people who know how to takes the best of different worlds usually find the best results.
