Making More Money on Expertscolumn.com and Other Writing Sites, Listen to the Masses
Everybody's tastes vary. I believe that sometimes as columnists on expertscolumn.com we tend to only write about the things we are very familiar with. These make for great articles because we know what we are talking about; but are we going to ever make any money writing on only the subjects that interest us? If our interests don't match the mainstream of the folks reading articles, we will receive very few, if any hits on our columns. Don't get me wrong, all types of articles are needed; but in order to have our work viewed by the masses we need to write on the subjects that are the hottest topics in the world today.
Sure, write about the things you really know about first; but after they're gone you will need to find something else to write about. Consider doing the following before writing your next article.
One, watch the national news and see what they are talking about. If they have a story that catches your interest, it might very well catch someone else's interest. Even if their story doesn't catch your interest, do some research on the issue and consider writing an article on it. Current events are great subjects to write on.
Two, find out what is being searched for on the internet. There are always places to find out what the hot search terms are. Find something that is hot and do your own article on it. For instance, if Dancing With the Stars is a popularly sought out phrase, you could write a story on the show or you could pick out one of the dancer's to write an expose on. There is enough information on the internet for you to use, you can sound like an expert on almost any subject.
Next, if you have children, listen to what they are saying about music, cars, electronics, etc… Teenagers and even younger children are in tune with what is hot and what is not. Consider writing on one of the topics they bring up.
You can also talk with some senior citizens. Seniors can tell you vivid and accurate stories about the days gone by. History interests a lot of people and when you can put a personal slant on it, it will make for a warm personal column.
Do everything you can to keep up with current events and listen to the pulse of your readers. Your readers know what they want to read, cater to them, don't expect them to conform to you. Write on the things that interest the masses. Not just on the things that interest you.
